San Diego, CA (WFN) -- Life isn't easy when you only have a birthday once every four years, but a timely tune is giving leap year babies reason to sing. The San Diego-based band Rookie Card has just recorded a song, "2/29" about the hazards of being born on February 29 that songwriter Adam Gimbel believes is the only tune about the topic "...except for some waltzes written in the 1920s." The leap year lyrics include, "So you think it's rough being born near Christmas/ Try coming out on a day that doesn't exist/ In three years out of four/ I'll have faith no more." Gimbel was actually born in September, so he test-marketed the tune with folks born on February 29 and got mixed results. One woman who runs a website for leap year babies appreciated Gimbel's empathy for her plight but a man born on February 29 felt the song was "insensitive because it assumes everyone born on that birthday feels bad about it." "2/29" is currently available at rookiecardthemovie.com and if all goes according to plan, Gimbel hopes the song is revived every four years.
