London, England -- The man who played the Elephant Man is waving his trunk at "Lost in Translation." Actor John Hurt tells the "Evening Standard" that "there are no levels" on which the film deserves an Oscar and is threatening to resign from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences should it win any awards. Oscar nominations will be announced Jan. 27.

NEW YORK -- Actor Ewan McGregor is getting into the travel writing business. The "Big Fish" star is planning a transcontinental motorcycle ride later this year with fellow actor Charley Boorman and has agreed to write a book about the experience.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger are in talks to play gay cowboy lovers in an new Ang Lee movie "Brokeback Mountain," but those two aren't the preferred on-screen duo for some gay men. According to a poll by PlanetOut.com, most gay gays think Colin Farrell would make a hotter match to either one of the two actors being considered for the role. And still others think Brad Pitt and Josh Hartnett would be the ideal on-screen couple for the movie.

LOS ANGELES -- Raunchy rocker Liz Phair is taking her act down a few notches on the sexy scale with an upcoming appearance on the NBC show "American Dreams." The guitar-slinger will play Jackie de Shannon of "Put A Little Love in Your Heart," fame.
