Columbia, TN -- A little bit of holiday cheer is all it takes to get off the hook for a traffic ticket in Columbia, Tennessee, judge Tom DuBois's courtroom. Each Christmas, the judge allows minor traffic offenders to get off without a fine if they stand up in court and sing a Christmas carol, reports "The Tennessean." SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Christmastime is here again, and so is the controversy over which town can rightly claim to be the birthplace of the popular carol, "Jingle Bells." The debate rages over whether the tune's composer, James Pierpont, wrote the song in his hometown of Medford, Massachusetts, or in Savannah, Georgia, where he was a church organist at the time he copyrighted the song. Unfortunately, the North vs. South battle continues to rankle residents of both towns, with no resolution in sight. MEXICO CITY -- Drunk drivers are getting a reprieve from police in Mexico City, who have declared they won't be doing Breathalyzer tests and sobriety checkpoints on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve. The belief is that during the holidays, drunks will sleep it off at a friend or family member's house before hitting the road.
