New Baby Panda Will Grow Up To Be A Diplomat

Los Angeles, CA -- What's in a name? Plenty, if you're talking about the new baby panda at the San Diego Zoo.

Zoo officials have just announced that the four-month-old male giant panda cub will be called "Mei Sheng" (MAY-SHUN), a Chinese name meaning, "Born in the U.S.A."

Names mean a lot in the Chinese tradition, according to Chinese intercultural and "feng shui" expert Angi Ma Wong, who says the baby panda's new moniker portends a "charmed life" full of good health and prosperity for the zoo.

She says little Mei Sheng will probably grow up to be a real diplomat, getting along well with the other pandas and leading them with a quiet strength.

Ma Wong also says the cub will be especially lucky if keepers place the door to his enclosure facing Northeast -- the proper "feng shui" direction for someone with his birthday.
