Cat Calendars Hang In There; Pinups Are Out

San Francisco, CA -- A publisher of calendars has been on the right track for the past 25 years promoting train photos over pinup-girls.

Charles Ditlefsen, the founder of Cedco, began publishing calendars of train photos a quarter-century ago after being disappointed with his job as transportation engineer.

Today the company prints 200 different types of calendars including ten different cat and kitten calendars, but also adult calendars featuring "Playboy" Playmates and Chippendales dancers.

But Ditlefsen says train and kitten calendars have always outsold the cheesecake photos, and, at the end of this year, his compaby will dump its pinup section altogether.

Mass retailers had a hand in the sexy calendars' demise. Ditlefsen says bookstores and Wal-Marts wouldn't carry them because they didn't reflect the stores' family-oriented image.
