New York, NY -- For photographer Phyllis Galembo, every day is Halloween.

The art professor from New York has a collection of 500 vintage Halloween costumes, many of which she uses in her photography.

Some of those photographs, along with 26 costumes from her stash, will be on display at the Fashion Institute of New York starting Tuesday (Oct. 21), for an exhibit titled "Dressed for Thrills."

Galembo started collecting costumes to use as props in her photos, but these days she keeps most of the outfits in special storage wrappings which slow down their disintegration.

She says the history of Halloween costumes in America stretches back to the 1870s, and certain themes have always been popular, such as bats, witches and ghosts.

Among the items on display in the museum are a 1930s Little Orphan Annie costume, a 1960s Little Bo Peep outfit and a Depression-era red and white striped Lady Liberty dress.
