'Killer Tomatoes' Almost Turns Actor Into Vegetable

Los Angeles, CA -- You think working on a film like "Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes" is easy? Guess again. It almost turned one of the stars into a vegetable.

That's the word from Jack Riley, who stars in the 1977 camp film classic, and says he almost died from the experience when a helicopter carrying him to a scene set in a deserted tomato field crashed.

Riley says the copter burst into flames just after landing and -- quote -- "It was the first time an actor was thrown at tomatoes."

Apparently, the experience has traumatized him so much that now, "I have to duck whenever I go by a salad bar."

Despite the on-set struggles, Riley says the payoff from the film has been great and he can't go anywhere without someone singing the title tune; something that should happen quite frequently since a 25th anniversary edition of "Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes" hits stores Sept. 23.
