Asian Caricatures Popular With Caucasians

San Diego, CA -- Caucasians have taken to tattooing Asian characters on their body, despite the fact that many don't understand what the symbols mean.

Sherry Kendrick, a San Diego-based calligrapher of Chinese characters, says the Chinese get a good laugh at the expense of white folks who have nonsense words tattooed on their bodies.

Kendrick says she's had one woman ask her to verify that her tattoo said "beautiful woman." Sadly, Kendrick had to tell the woman it read "beautiful man."

She thinks Caucasian people are fixated on the characters because they think they're beautiful, but to prevent confusion, she encourages people to pick the symbols based on personal meaning rather than whether they look good.

Kendrick says a professional calligrapher should be able to make any symbol look beautiful.
