Melts In Your Mouth, Not In Your Medicine Bottle

West Lafayette, IN -- Medical researchers are taking a cue from M&Ms with their latest innovation in medicine: A pill that melts in your mouth, not in your hand.

Scientists at Akina Inc. in West Lafayette, Indiana, are perfecting a tablet technology they've dubbed "Frosta" because it makes pills melt as fast as frost once placed in a patient's mouth -- about 10 seconds, to be exact.

But what's the point of the dissolving pills?

Akina Inc. CEO Kinam Park -- a professor of pharmaceutics and biomedical engineering at nearby Purdue University -- says they're perfect for patients who gag when they take medicine in tablet form or people who are on the go and need to take their pills without water.

The Frosta technology isn't just limited to medicine.

Researchers say the method could also be used to make fast-dissolving foods or chemicals, such as pool cleaning compounds.
