Around The Weird - Bizarre News Briefs for July 15th, 2003

Chicago, IL -- What's in a name? Plenty to Chicago residents. The White Sox now play in U.S. Cellular Field. Yet, 79 percent still refer to it by the old name, "Comiskey Park." The park hosts tonight's All-Star Game.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- Kiwi fruits are going bananas. Scientists at the HortResearch lab in New Zealand are currently studying how to make kiwi fruits that can peel as easily as bananas.

ELYRIA, Ohio -- Now, here's one you probably hadn't thought of: An Ohio woman landed in jail recently after prison authorities discovered she'd been mailing marijuana to an inmate -- pasted underneath the stamps! According to the Lorain, Ohio, "Morning Journal," officials found 10 letters total, each with a little less than a gram sealed under the stamp.

PERTH, Australia -- Sure it's a world record, but would you want to be on the books as the world's most prolific bikini waxer? An aesthetician in Perth, Australia, is going to bear that title after stripping clean the crotches of 130 people in just four hours. "A couple of the women were in a bit of pain after the procedure," Lareesa Guttery tells ananova.com, "but there were no real mishaps, thankfully."
