Los Angeles, CA -- Stenographers like Kate Hudson's character in "Alex & Emma" may have an easier time finding love than those in other professions.

According to Pat Barkley, CEO of Barkley Court Reporters in Los Angeles, the profession is 97 percent female, and many enter the field when they are single.

A large portion of court reporting work is done at legal depositions where law firms send their young junior male attorneys.

As a result, stenography is a recipe for love. In fact, many of Barkley's stenographers have been wined and dined by men they meet on the job.

She herself met her ex-husband while on a court reporting assignment.

Of course, youth isn't the only asset stenographers have. Barkley says they can charm smart guys because they are exposed to a wide variety of work and pick up quite a bit of knowledge.

In Barkley's words: "They are also great at cocktail parties because they know a little about everything."
