Chicago, IL -- Actress-turned-denture-cleanser-pitchwoman Martha Raye could be poised for a comeback -- if she weren't already dead.

New information released by the Academy of General Dentistry shows microwaving dentures kills the stain and stench-causing odors that soaking alone can't do.

A study in the Academy's "General Dentistry" publication shows microwaving false teeth for two minutes while soaking it in denture cleanser kills bacteria and prevents stomatitis -- a yucky fungal infection in the mouth that causes white or red sores, bleeding, swelling and a burning sensation.

Dentists say you can microwave dentures that have been worn anywhere from 12 days to 48 years, as long as the fake choppers don't contain any metal.

Also, the Academy warns oldsters to prevent mouth burns by allowing the dentures to cool before putting them into the mouth.
