Americans Foregoing Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures

Beverly Hills, CA -- If you've noticed your fellow Americans looking a bit hairier and scalier, there's good reason.

According to a study released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the economic slump of 2002 has caused a decline in "non-surgical cosmetic plastic surgery."

Procedures like chemical peels are down 31 percent, microdermabrasions 13 percent and laser hair removal down 15 percent.

Botox was the only procedure last year that gained in popularity by 31 percent.

Whether Americans will look more tired and haggard, ASPS president Dr. James Wells says, "that may be one potential twist."

However, Dr. Wells says women will likely deal with the problem by putting make up on, while men will just deal with it.
