Oldsters Hate Being Ridiculed By Commercials

Muncie, IN -- America's senior citizens are raising their canes at TV ads that portray them as feeble and dingy.

According to a study of oldsters by Ball State University, nearly 67 percent hate ads that portray them as "out of touch" geezers or "objects of ridicule" like Grandpa Simpson.

Researchers say the old coots are wise to those tricks played by young advertising execs who make fun of senile seniors in order to appeal to the youth market.

That could be a mistake.

Study director Robert Gustafson says the research suggests that Grandma and Grandpa Q. Public generally have more disposable income than the rest of the family.

The trend is only expected to increase within the next 25 years, but advertisers better change their act pronto -- 61 percent of oldsters are willing to boycott products that use "anti-oldster" ad campaigns.
