New York, NY (WFN) -- Music producer Phil Spector may be charged with murdering actress Lana Clarkson but his former songwriting collaborators haven't lost that loving feeling for him. Songwriters Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil -- who co-wrote "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" with Spector -- say they've stayed away from commenting on the murder case until now but believe, as Mann puts it, "He didn't do it. It's not in his character." Both Mann and Weil are convinced Clarkson's death must have been an accident, but the parties will have to wait until the preliminary hearing to determine whether the case will go to trial. However, Mann and Weil don't plan too attend, mainly because they're busy working on two plays, including a musical version of the 1982 Cher film, "Mask." In addition, the couple will be in New York tonight to receive a "Heroes Award" from the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences.
