Philadelphia, PA (WFN) -- Chubby Checker is hip-hopping his way into a whole new image -- as a rapper named "Chubby C." He's getting radio play for a new single released under that name, "The Original Master of the Dance Hall Beat," which features him rapping new lyrics to his hit "Limbo Rock." The track appears on a Maxi Single which just debuted at No. 5 on Billboard's Hot Dance Singles Sales Chart -- where a remix of Elvis' "Rubberneckin" has been No. 1 for weeks. His style is reminiscent of the reggae rap known as "dancehall," and he throws down lyrics like: "Hey pretty gal do the limbo down low/ Everybody know you do the limbo down low" quite convincingly. Checker says a lot of the folks playing the tune don't realize "Chubby C" is Chubby Checker, the man who popularized "The Twist." He's excited that kids are dancing up a storm to his music again, but claims he's always had a hold on the dance scene, saying "all the dances that the kids do are my dances."
