Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- Tragedy and comedy are closely linked -- as Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connelly learned while filming her new thriller, "The House Of Sand And Fog."

In one scene, Connelly's character gets injured when she steps on some nails.

It's supposed to be a sad scene but the film's director, Vadim Perelman, says the mood on the set was anything but -- mainly because the nails were rubber. In his words, "We were laughing quite a bit."

Other shots that were fun to film, according to Perelman, include a steamy love scene between Connelly and Ron Eldard.

The scene was carefully edited so it wouldn't overexpose Connelly's bod, but Perelman jokes that he's doing his best to get the outtakes available on the internet.

"House Of Sand And Fog," which also stars Ben Kingsley, opens in the U.S. Dec. 26.
