Atlantic City, NJ -- Competitive, high-stakes poker is a male-dominated game -- but six women are about to change that in an event that will air on the Travel Channel Dec. 10. The pro poker-playing ladies include a tough-as-nails granny, a former poker dealer and the two top-winning female poker players in the world, all of whom are competing for a $25,000 entry fee to the World Poker Tour Championship. Veteran world champ Annie Duke, who turned to poker after leaving a career as a psycholinguistics PhD, says she's generally not a fan of ladies-only tournaments because she believes poker is a sport where men and women are on completely equal footing. But she's pleased to be in such good company for this two-hour "ladies night" poker match. One thing Duke's not terribly crazy about, though, is the way the show is filmed, which involves the audience in the game by showing shots of all the players' hold cards. In her words, "I don't think any pro likes showing their cards, but I understand it's necessary to popularize the sport."
