San Diego, CA (WFN) -- Athletes in training often have to exercise caution in their diets -- and that can make some restaurants hard to stomach. But two fitness experts in San Diego are trying something different with a cafe that is focused on serving food designed for extreme athletes. Fitness buffs who eat at the Precontest Cafe can get a variety of menu items that are perfect for folks training for a bodybuilding match or a marathon including low-fat beef, brown rice and broccoli. Precontest Cafe co-owner Robert Johnson -- a former NFL running back -- says serious athletes often have a specific regimen of protein, carbohydrates and low-fat ingredients that aren't common at normal restaurants and that forces them to bring their own meals everywhere. As a result, Johnson says the response to the Precontest Cafe has been good from more athletic eaters. Still, he says the real goal is convincing non-athletes to eat at the restaurant just because they like the taste of the food.
