Dallas, TX (WFN) -- Kids who want to be Marilyn Manson lookalikes this Halloween by wearing gruesome-looking novelty contact lenses could get an eyeful of trouble. That's according to Dr. H. Dwight Cavanagh, an eye expert at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He's just written an editorial in the scientific journal "Eye and Contact Lens" which bashes cosmetic lenses bought at the mall or on the internet without a doctor's prescription. He says letting teens wear this sort of "one size fits all" eye coverings without a doctor's supervision is like "giving them the car keys without a license." Dr. Cavanagh says over-the-counter lenses can rub the cornea and cause permanent damage after just a few hours of use, including blindness, infections or the loss of an eye. He says all contact lenses should be prescribed by an ophthalmologist or optometrist.
