Los Angeles, CA -- It's not easy stepping in the footsteps of an icon like "Soul Train" host Don Cornelius, but new host Dorian Gregory is up to the challenge -- if he can do it his way.

Gregory takes over for Shemar Moore, who replaced Cornelius five years ago. Still, he admits the soul music legend's presence still looms large over the set.

In Gregory's words, "I grew up with this show. Anyone who's not daunted by the task of working in the footsteps of Don Cornelius should be slapped."

Gregory says when he was offered the job, he made sure that producers knew that they were "putting me there to be me."

Right now, Gregory is dancing with joy and says he especially loves watching the dancers because "you can tell they just love to dance."

Besides "Soul Train," Gregory is still keeping his hands in acting with his recurring role, Detective Darryl Morris, on the WB series, "Charmed."
