20-Year-Old Rapper Running For Mayor

Haddon Heights, NJ (WFN) -- When rapper Tommy Avellone isn't running off rhymes, he's running for office.

Avellone is a 20-year-old college student who is one of three candidates campaigning to be the next mayor of Haddon Heights, New Jersey.

He's also the youngest. Avellone says the other two candidates are "old farts with kids as old as me" and aren't as interested in his core issues: Finding places "where Haddon Heights kids can hang out and bands can play."

One of the ways he is campaigning is with an original song, "Vote For Tommy," which features lyrics like "I ain't Democrat or Republican/ When it comes Election Day/ I'm the right man."

He feels raps like that are sure to attract the youth vote, but admits that he can only win if he "gets their parents to vote for me as well."
