Chicago, IL (WFN) -- Last week's blackout left millions in the dark, but there's a bright light on the horizon if such a tragedy ever happens again. A company called Light for Health is in the process of developing a fluorescent light that would glow for 24 hours following a power cut-off. The four-inch-long tubes fit into regular fluorescent fixtures and require at least 15 minutes of electricity to "charge up." In a blackout, they stay burning at 80 percent of their regular light for two hours, then gradually dim over the next 22 hours. You can also pop one of the $29.95 tubes out of its socket and carry it around like a four-foot-long flashlight. Spokeswoman Linaya Hahn says the lights -- which some have dubbed "Blackout Bulbs" -- won't be available to the public for another three months, but orders are already coming in from hospitals and schools. "I think this lightbulb is going to be a life-saver," she says, adding most blackout accidents occur in the two minutes before emergency generators kick in.
