Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- A writer in Los Angeles is begging for cash these days. He needs it to run for governor. California is holding a recall election for governor Gray Davis, and writer Steve Young wants to take his place -- but he needs $3500 first. He already has the 65 signatures required to run for the state's highest office, but he's short the $3500 needed to file his paperwork and get into the election. Young is hoping to get all of the money from one donor because, as he puts it, "I'd rather be beholden to one person, not 65." His chances for election may seem slim but Young is the only declared Democrat running against Davis and figures the "Republicans, Libertarians, Librarians and Aquarians" will split the "adversarial votes." If Young can get on the ballot, he thinks California voters will appreciate his willingness to do anything to balance the budget, "including selling Bakersfield." He hopes to raise enough money to file by next Monday (Aug. 4).
