New York, NY (WFN) -- "Pirates Of The Caribbean" is creating a waves of opportunity for all sorts of pirate pop culture. For instance, a New York-based pirate singing group called The Mercantillers has been around for three years but has been flooded with offers in recent weeks. Merchantillers leader Barnacle Joe says there are some good reasons why pirate pop is striking a chord with many folks. For instance, pirate music sounds good when you're drinking. Also, he says pirate musicians were the original punk rockers, "especially those who sang nasty songs about the Captain's daughter." Barnacle Joe's salty sense of humor might make you say, "Aargh," but there are lots of New Yorkers willing to shell out a buck an ear each performance. In addition, being a pirate is good for romance. Barnacle Joe says his sex life has been ship-shape ever since the Mercantillers formed.
