Art On A Roll

Milan, Italy (WFN) -- Those cardboard tubes left over after you finish a roll of toilet paper aren't useless. They can be transformed into works of art.

In fact, Italian graphic designer Luca Varaschini is doing just that, turning tubes into human portraits by etching in facial features and hair.

Varaschini says he was inspired to take a scalpel and scissors to a empty toilet paper tube out of boredom, but once he saw the results, he was hooked.

He currently has 30 portraits -- or masks, as he likes to call them -- and creates new pieces whenever he finds a good roll.

According to Varaschini, the best tubes are from the most expensive rolls of toilet paper, because they are firm and don't shred when you carve them.

The artist doesn't sell his toilet paper tube creations and says if anyone offered him money for them he'd be both "honored and embarrassed."
