Boston, MA (WFN) -- Bottoms up! The folks who make Samuel Adams beer have set a new record for the world's strongest brewski. Called Samuel Adams Utopias, the limited-edition brew has a dizzying 25 percent alcohol content and sells for $100 a bottle -- which amounts to about 25 one-ounce servings. Boston Beer Company beermaster Jim Koch says the beer is meant to be savored in small quantities, like brandy, and is his way of showing folks beer isn't just for swigging at the bowling alley. In his words, "As a brewer, it's cool to show people that beer has the same range, nobility and dignity that wine does." Koch, who has been making the high-alcohol "extreme beers" for ten years, says the increased booze content is a pleasant side effect of creating a beer which has such rich and complex flavors. The Utopias brew may also encourage some interstate smuggling: Because of the high amount of alcohol in each bottle, it's illegal in several U.S. states.
