|
Los Angeles, CA -- Casey Kasem's ears may be as important to 20th century pop culture as his voice. Kasem, who used to be the voice of Shaggy on the "Scooby Doo" cartoon, is also a well-known disc jockey and claims he "can always tell if a song is going to be a hit." One song that Kasem broke was Sam Cooke's 1957 No. 1 "You Send Me" but the most important song that he introduced is probably Jackie Wilson's "Reet Petite" in 1959. That's because the song was written by Berry Gordy, who used the royalties to help start the Motown record label, which gave the world the Supremes, the Temptations and Michael Jackson. These days, Kasem is returning the favor to Gordy. He's just picked some of his favorite Motown songs for a new compilation of his "America's Top Ten Hits" CD series, "Motown's Greatest Hits."
