New York, NY (WFN) -- Here's a hair-raising trend: Shaving the pubic area is becoming increasingly popular with men.

According to "Men's Journal," the foremost expert on shaving the short hairs is James Whittall, president of MenEssentials -- a grooming website for men.

Whittall learned about the clip jobs when visitors to his website began asking him for tips on how to groom their patches.

He began investigating the subject and eventually wrote an article about it titled "Shaving Private Ryan" which now accounts for one-sixth the traffic on his website.

Besides just trimming the hairs, Whittall says a large number of men are also shaving their scrotum smooth in order to make the sexual organs appear larger.

There are drawbacks, of course, including nicks, skin irritations and infections.
