San Pedro, CA (WFN) -- Dracula has nothing on a man in San Pedro, California, whose cancer treatment requires him to make a tragic choice: Live like a vampire or be mistaken for a terrorist.

Don McPherson is currently undergoing treatment for a liver tumor that doesn't respond to chemotherapy.

Doctors are treating McPherson with photodynamic therapy, a treatment that has a unique side effect: painful skin blisters for patients who go out in direct sunlight.

So McPherson is forced to either be a night owl or cover himself completely if he goes out during the day.

Unfortunately, his daytime attire -- a hat, ski mask, gloves, neck-hugging jacket and two sets of wrap-around sunglasses -- makes McPherson, in his words, "look like a terrorist."

Not surprisingly, he's aroused lots of suspicious glances from neighbors. And he has to call the police everytime he goes out during the day to keep them from pulling him over.

Luckily, the treatment only has a little more left. McPherson is burning to get back to his first love: ocean kayaking.
