Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- The Academy Awards have just begun to honor animated pictures with their own category, but some animation experts say that isn't enough -- voiceover artists should get credit too. Animation historian Noel Blanc -- a voiceover actor himself -- says it takes an extremely good actor to do cartoon voices but not everyone can do it well. Therefore, he thinks they should be recognized with their own category in the Oscars: Best Performance in an Animated Feature. Blanc should know a good voice actor when he hears one. His dad was Mel Blanc, the man who created the voices for Bugs Bunny, Barney Rubble, and Daffy Duck, among others. He hopes any Oscar given to honor vocal actors will be named after his dad, who is still considered a cartoon legend. However, Blanc says if Academy officials don't want to hand out too many awards, it's okay if they combine male and female voice actors into one category.
