Glendale, CA -- This Sunday (Nov. 24) marks an event that could do for Armenian music what the "Ed Sullivan Show" did for the Beatles. It's the the 5th Annual Armenian Music Awards and many top Armenian musicians like System Of A Down singer Serj Tankian and Raffi will be competing for the coveted "Anoush" award. Anoush Awards organizer Peter Bahlawanian says Armenian rhythms and folk melodies have influenced both western and eastern music for thousands of years but have been overlooked in pop music. However, he says Armenian music is ready to break out and he's keeping his fingers crossed for an "Armenian invasion" much like the mid-1960s British Invasion that introduced the Beatles and Rolling Stones to the U.S. To that end, Bahlawanian says musicians like Tankian, Raffi and ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland will be appearing at Sunday's awards show.
