A Profane Gentleman Is A Well-Rounded Gentleman

Richmond, VA -- Using four-letter words may seem un-gentlemanly, but etiquette experts agree, a gentleman should be well-versed in profanity.

Manners experts, and authors of the new mens' manners book "The Modern Gentleman" (Ten Speed Press), Phineas Mollod and Jason Tesauro say cursing serves a purpose in getting your point across.

However, it should be used sparingly, like saffron in cooking, so that it's something special.

Tesauro says if you use F-words sparingly, people will notice more when you let one fly.

Even more special, Tesauro says, is throwing over "cliched" curse words, and crafting new ones.

For example, he says think of yourself as the Shakespeare of profanity, and instead of calling someone an idiot, tell them their "dendritic branches are thin and wispy."

In plain English, that means, "You're an idiot."
