Rick Derringer Shooting For Smooth Jazz Success

New York, NY -- Although guitarist Rick Derringer is known as a rocker, he's now shooting for the jazz charts.

Derringer is about to release his firstever jazz album, a smooth jazz CD called "Free Ride," hitting stores tomorrow (Sept. 17).

However, 55-year-old Derringer isn't completely leaving his rock roots behind.

The new CD features jacuzzi jazz versions of his biggest rock hits, "Free Ride" and "Frankenstein," as well as a jazzy rendition of "Rock-N-Roll Hoochie Koo," retitled "Jazzy Coo."

Although Derringer considered doing a jazz version of his first hit, "Hang On Sloopy," and even a Weird Al Yankovic song, he chose to leave those off this recording, "because you have to have something for the next album."
