Eat Your Words -- With Edible Books

Los Angeles, CA -- You've heard of coffee-table books, but now you can eat a book while drinking your coffee.

It might sound strange, but that's what's going to happen on The Third Annual Edible Book Day, which will be celebrated around the world on April 1.

According to the event's creator Judith A. Hoffberg, foodies in countries like the United States, France and Japan will display books built out of edible materials and then chow down on them.

Hoffberg says some of last year's more unusual entries -- or "entrees"-- included a salad with words etched into the lettuce leaves, a book made out of melted-down gummy bears and a book with pages made from waffles.

While Hoffberg is proud of how far the event has come in the last few years, she doesn't think the public will stomach it for much longer and says it will probably "fizzle out within five years time."
