New York, NY -- Midriff fashion slaves are giving rise to a new form of plastic surgery: bellybutton lifts.

That's a procedure that's becoming popular with belly-baring teens who want their bellybuttons to have that "pouty look."

During the so-called "umbilicoplasty" surgery, doctors put a "purse-string" suture around the navel to control the circumference and give it a ridge at the top.

New York-based plastic surgeon Dr. Bruce Nadler says the bellybutton lift takes only 30 to 45 minutes and costs a mere $2,500.

He says, so far, the doctored bellybuttons are most popular with women aged 18 to 35, but some clients are male bodybuilders who show their navels off in competitions.
