New York, NY (WFN) -- Former Velvet Underground singer Lou Reed has a reputation for being a big grumpy gus, but Violent Femmes singer Gordon Gano says that's a bunch of hooey.

Gano says he might be the first person to ever say Reed's curmudgeon image couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, Reed is "so friendly that he's nicer than friendly."

He says he'd always heard grumpy Reed stories, but when he met him 10 years ago at a festival in Germany, the two bonded -- especially when Reed complimented Gano on his lyrics and invited him on stage to play "Walk on the Wild Side."

The duet went off without a hitch even though Gano says he hadn't heard it for years and was worried he'd forget the lyrics, but ended up remembering them and even made up a few of his own -- in German.

Gano's debut solo record "Hitting The Ground," which features Reed himself on one of the tracks, is in stores now.
