Gloustester, MA (WFN) -- Phish's drummer recently scored the ultimate Frank Zappa fan honor -- he got props from Zappa's band.

Jon Fishman says he went to see the ex-members of Zappa's band play in a club and afterwards drummer Chad Wackerman and guitarist Ike Willis said, "We dig what you do! We been checkin' it out."

And while this was an honor, Fishman says he had to ask the obvious question, "Did you ever play my music for Frank?"

Wackerman told Fishman that he once played a Phish record for Zappa but he ignored it. Nevertheless, he insisted that Zappa may have been a fan, but it was just hard to "read into him."

Fishman's latest project is a new Zappa compilation CD, "Zappa Picks -- by Jon Fishman of Phish," hitting stores October 15.
