Lexington, KY -- Sex symbols like Madonna and Pam Anderson have nothing on screen goddess Joan Crawford, who put the "sin" in cinema, if a new biography is any indication.

According to "Joan Crawford: The Essential Biography" (University Press Of Kentucky), the woman known as "Mommie Dearest" was, by many accounts, a sex-crazed woman who enjoyed romps with both sexes, including stars like Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart.

Crawford once confessed that if she was in the right mood, she "wouldn't mind giving a poke" to Bette Davis and also touted lesbianism to other women by saying, "At least you can't get pregnant."

Although this news may make Crawford sound like "Mommie Queerest," it's not the kinkiest part of her sexual past. According to the book, Crawford lost her virginity to her stepfather when she was 11, and, in her words, "He was gentle and kind and I led him into it."

"Joan Crawford: The Essential Biography" will be published September 30.
