|
Los Angeles, CA -- Talk about cashing in your chips: The composer who wrote the disco soundtracks for "CHiPs" is getting a lifetime achievement award. Tonight (Apr. 30), the American Society Of Composers, Author and Publishers (ASCAP) is giving its lifetime achievement award to composer Alan Silvestri. The 52-year-old Silvestri won an Oscar for "Forrest Gump," but is best-known for his work on "CHiPs." In fact, he's the guy who helped popularize the wah-wah guitars and swirling strings so prevalent during the disco era. Some musicians might not find composing cop show music very arresting but Silvestri enjoyed his time on "CHiPs" and says the show's music is still fun to play. However, Silvestri won't be revisiting his cop show compositions anytime soon. He's too busy working on the soundtrack for "Stuart Little 2," which hits theaters later this summer.
