New York, NY (WFN) -- Friday marks the 270th anniversary of President George Washington's birth and his favorite bar in New York plans to celebrate -- by boozing it up colonial style. The Fraunces Tavern -- which was Washington's favorite watering hole back in the 1780s -- is planning a special menu that includes some of the first President's favorite cocktails. According to Chef Andrew Paparella, the tavern was the place where Washington chose to deliver his farewell speech to his officers at the end of the Revolutionary War, and it's likely he toasted them with Madeira wine and "fyllabub," a mix of red wine and nutmeg. Booze isn't the only way the Fraunces Tavern is honoring its most famous barfly. Paparella cannot tell a lie: He's also serving a variety of cherry desserts.
