New York, NY -- When you travel in the third world, bring lots of Tabasco sauce. That's the advice of journalist Sebastian Junger, who recently traveled to Afghanistan to interview guerilla warriors. Junger -- who wrote the book "The Perfect Storm" -- says he didn't expect to eat like a gourmet but quickly became sick of the local specialties: rice, gristly mutton and sheep's head boiled in beans. Although he brought a bottle of Tabasco sauce to Afghanistan to help him stomach the local cuisine, the natives were just as sick of their own food and quickly co-opted his hot sauce -- which was supposed to last him five weeks. Junger plans to return to Afghanistan later this year and, this time, he's bringing an entire case of Tabasco so he doesn't run out. His visit to Afghanistan is the subject of a new National Geographic documentary, "Into The Forbidden Zone," which will debut Sunday on the CNBC cable network.
