New Zealand Town Holds Moonshine Festival

Gore, New Zealand -- The town of Gore, New Zealand, is holding a festival to celebrate its history of bootlegging.

The 6th Annual Moonshiners Festival takes place this Sunday (March 4) and 2,500 people are expected to come and get tanked to celebrate the history of illegal whiskey stills.

Festival spokeswoman Wendy Barron says when prohibition was in effect in New Zealand during the 1890s, Gore became notorious for keeping the country wet with its illicit stills.

Today the stills are all gone, but that doesn't mean the town hasn't lost its thirst.

Barron says the locals are happy drinking hooch from Ireland and Scotland for their festival.
