Vegetarian Prisoners To Get Special Meals

Washington (WFN) -- Vegetarian prisoners will be eating high on the hog thanks to one meat-hating convict.

Pennsylvania prisoner Keith Maydak -- who's doing time for wire fraud -- has filed a lawsuit demanding that non-flesh-eating prisoners receive vegetarian vittles.

Although the lawsuit has yet to be settled, the U.S. Bureau of Prisons recently decided to serve non-meat meals to prisoners who request them.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) says new prison dinners like barbecued tofu with onions are indeed vegetarian but they taste too similar to meat, making it hard for some vegetarians to swallow.

The Bureau of Prisons could not be reached for comment.
