Generic Name: E: LIDOCAINE (LYE-doe-kane)
Common Uses of Xylocaine This medicine is a local anesthetic used to decrease pain and discomfort resulting from urinary tract procedures or the placement of endotracheal (airway) tubes. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Possible Xylocaine Side Effects Side effects that may go away during treatment, include loss of feeling, burning, itching, or redness in the treated area. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor.Check with your doctor as soon as possible if you experience skin rash, hives, or shortness of breath. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
General Cautions This medicine will cause numbness wherever it is applied. If this medicine is used in your mouth or throat, it may reduce your ability to swallow. Do not eat for at least 1 hour after using this medicine. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children and pets. This medicine is excreted in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
