Generic Name: METRONIDAZOLE Chemical Name: METRONIDAZOLE (me-troe-NI-da-zole) Common Uses of Metrogel This medicine is an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent used to treat redness and inflammation associated with a skin condition known as rosacea. This medicine may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Possible Metrogel Side Effects Side effects that may go away during treatment, include redness, mild dryness, itching, burning, stinging, or skin irritation. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. Contact your doctor as soon as possible if you experience tingling or numbness in hands and feet, or nausea. An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. General CautionsIt may take several weeks for this medicine to work. Do not stop using this medicine without checking with your doctor. If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor. Avoid getting this medicine in your eyes or on the inside of your nose or mouth. For Women: if you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. This medicine is excreted in breast milk.
