Foradil
Generic Name: FORMOTEROL (for-MOH-te-role)

Common Uses of Foradil
This medicine is a beta receptor stimulant used to prevent the symptoms of asthma, or obstructive pulmonary diseases (e.g., chronic bronchitis, or emphysema) in persons 6 years and older. This medicine may also be used to prevent exercise-induced breathing difficulties (e.g., exercise-induced bronchospasm, EIB) and to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. This medicine is not to be used for an acute asthma attack, nor is it a substitute for inhaled or oral corticosteroids (e.g., beclomethasone, fluticasone, prednisone). In fact, it generally is used in combination with another controller-type asthma medication (such as inhaled corticosteroids).

Possible Foradil Side Effects
Side effects that may go away during treatment, include tremor, irregular heartbeat, headache, or throat irritation. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor.

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if you experience increased trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

General Cautions
Do not stop using this medicine without first checking with your doctor. This medicine will not stop an asthma attack once one has started. If you are also using another bronchodilator inhaler, be sure to always carry it with you to use during asthma attacks. If you have questions about which medicines are used to prevent asthma attacks and which medicines stop asthma attacks, check with your doctor or pharmacist. Do not increase the dose or use this medicine more often than prescribed without checking with your doctor. If you find that your fast-acting inhaler is not working as well or if you need to use it more often than usual, (I.e., using 4 or more puffs daily or using more than 1 inhaler every 8 weeks) tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. This may be a sign of worsening asthma which is a serious condition. Before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. If you are using other inhalers, wait a few minutes between using this medicine and other inhalers unless otherwise directed.

For Women: if you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. It is unknown if this medicine is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking this medicine.
