Ketamine as "Special K" or "K" has become a staple at ‘rave’ parties. It produces a dose-related progression of effects from a state of dreamy intoxication to delirium accompanied by the inability to move, feel pain or remember what has occurred while under the drug’s influence. Ketamine is a prescription drug. It’s intended use is as an anesthetic in human and veterinary medicine. Nineteen states have regulated ketamine and on August 12, 1999 it became a Schedule III substance under the Federal Controlled Substances Act.
