Among the 33.4% of currently sexually active students nationwide, 57.9% reported that either they or their partner had used a condom during last sexual intercourse. Overall, male students (65.1%) were significantly more likely than female students (51.3%) to report condom use. This significant sex difference was identified for white and black students and students in grades 10, 11, and 12. Overall, black students (67.1%) were significantly more likely than white and Hispanic students (56.8% and 53.5%, respectively) to report condom use. This significant racial/ethnic difference was identified for both female and male students. Overall, students in grades 9, 10, and 11 (67.5%, 60.1%, and 58.9%, respectively) were significantly more likely than students in grade 12 (49.3%) to report condom use, and students in grade 9 (67.5%) were significantly more likely than students in grade 11 (58.9%) to report condom use. Prevalence ranged from 45.5% to 68.3% (median: 59.2%) across state surveys and from 53.3% to 76.1% (median: 65.1%) across local surveys.
