Nationwide, 9.8% of students had used methamphetamines during their lifetime (i.e., lifetime methamphetamine use). Overall, white and Hispanic students (11.4% and 9.1%, respectively) were significantly more likely than black students (2.1%) to report lifetime methamphetamine use. This significant racial/ethnic difference was identified for both female and male students. Lifetime methamphetamine use varied threefold from 5.3% to 15.6% (median: 7.9%) across state surveys and varied threefold from 2.8% to 8.6% (median: 5.2%) across local surveys.
